Google unveils Chrome OS-powered Chromebooks

Falling in line with each company's respective target markets, Acer's Chromebook will be the lower-price model, available at a price of $349. Meanwhile, Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook will be priced at $429. Samsung will also offer a 3G-equipped version for $499. Acer does not have any 3G Chromebook plans in the works just yet, though all models have built-in Wi-Fi connectivity.
The news comes almost perfectly in time with a report from NPD that suggests devices like the iPad and Android tablets have a negligible impact on the traditional PC market. The research firm says notebooks and desktop computers are not going anywhere anytime soon.
Google agreed, pointing out the majority of all online usage right now is still initiated from laptop computers.
At less than $500, all Chromebook models fall in the low end of the notebook market, and slightly above the netbook market, chiseling out a nice little enclave for consumers.
Advantages of the Chrome OS platform include the fact that it has no BIOS startup processes, and can go from full power-off mode to the dekstop in a matter of seconds.
There will be apps and software available to download through a seamless function on the built-in Chrome browser. Online connectivity is the cornerstone of Chrome OS. In fact, instead of saving files to a local hard drive, users will have their own cloud-based storage system, another component that helps dial back the cost of the hardware.Google also has its eyes on enterprise customers, in a way no traditional computer platform has before.
In an extremely bold move, it will allow corporate or educational customers to place bulk Chromebook orders in which the organization doesn't have to pay anything up front but must sign up for a subscription model that charges $28 per month per user, with a three-year term required. Educational customers can get the same deal for $20 per month.
The price, over time, equals more than $1,000 per user, but in exchange for that premium Google also promises to offer a full range of support and services for enterprise customers.
Organizations like American Airlines, Logitech, and National Geographic have already signed up for the Chromebook program.

Apple patent reveals future iPod nano specs

A recently discovered patent indicates that Apple may be planning to add a camera and additional sensors to future generations of its multi-touch iPod nano.
Entitled "Environment Sensitive Display Tags,” the patent discusses new sensors and a camera which would add upgraded functionality to the already popular device. The above-mentioned hardware includes a motion sensor, microphone and temperature gauge.
All could potentially be used to power a new iteration of nano software, which would facilitate the unique display of real-time content, interactive games and screensavers on the uber-micro iPod.
News of the patent comes just days after reports that Apple’s seventh-gen iPod nano is likely to feature a rear-facing camera.
It is worth noting that the current iPod nano isn’t powered by iOS, but rather, boasts its own specially tailored operating system.

Tweeting Taliban switches to English

It seems the Taliban isn't quite as opposed to the use of modern technology as it once was. Not only does it now have its own Twitter feed, it's even started tweeting in English. The @alemarahweb feed first started up at the end of last year. It nowhas over two thousand followers, whom it updates regularly about Taliban victories over the infidels. It's run by PR man Mostafa Ahmedi.
While most tweets are in Pashtu, it yesterday switched to English to tell its supporters: "Enemy attacked in Khak-e-Safid, 6 dead". It links to the Voice of Jihad website, which describes in more detail the killing of the six 'puppet police'.
Several more English-language posts have followed.
Back in 2001, the Taliban banned the use of the internet in Afghanistan, saying it facilitated content which was immoral and against Islam. Since then, though, it seems to have softened its stance - for Taliban officials at least - by launching its website and even a YouTube account.
The @alemarahweb Twitter feed is following 12 others itself - including Afghan Tim, a USAF Logistics Readiness Officer currently working as a combat advisor to the Afghan Army.
It's also following Afghan Heroes UK, a charity formed to support British Joint Forces serving in Afghanistan. No doubt it finds the details of the charity's Mother's Day Ride of Respect absolutely fascinating.

Coffee Reduces Cancer Risk

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, May 11 (UPI) -- Drinking coffee specifically reduces the risk of anti-estrogen-resistant estrogen-receptor-negative breast cancer, researchers in Sweden say.
Researchers Jingmei Li, Petra Seibold, Jenny Chang-Claude, Dieter Flesch-Janys, Jianjun Liu, Kamila Czene, Keith Humphreys and Per Hall of the Karolinska Institutet compared lifestyle factors and coffee consumption in women with breast cancer and an age-matched control group.
The study, published in the journal Breast Cancer Research, found coffee drinkers had a lower incidence of breast cancer than women who rarely drank coffee.
However, they also found that several lifestyle factors -- such as age at menopause, exercise, weight, education and a family history of breast cancer -- affected breast cancer rates, and once these factors were accounted for, the protective effect of coffee on breast cancer was only measurable for ER-negative breast cancer.
"There is often conflicting information about the beneficial effects of coffee -- when we compared our results to that of a German study we discovered that their data showed the same trend, but the relationship was much weaker," the researchers said in a statement. "We suggest that this may have something to do with the way the coffee was prepared, or the type of bean preferred. It is unlikely that the protective effect is due to phytoestrogens present in coffee since there was no reduction in the incidence of ER-positive cancer in this study."

YOGA For the Relief of PMS Syndrome

Research shows that many women who suffer from PMS symptoms can benefit from certain types of exercise. Yoga is one of those exercises that can help alleviate the symptoms.
Yoga begins with the breath. One of the Five Principles of Yoga is Pranayama or Breathing which promotes proper breathing. The Yogis realized the importance of an adequate oxygen supply thousands of years ago to promote more oxygen to the brain and prevent disease. It is imperative that you learn how to breathe before beginning your Yoga practice. The following is a breathing exercise:
Start by lying on your back, with your knees bent. Place your left hand on your abdomen and your right hand on your chest, becoming aware of how your hands move in and out with each breath. Next, practice filling your lower lungs by breathing so that your left hand goes up when you inhale and your right hand remains still. Always inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Repeat this ten times. Now, continue to inhale deeper as you not only fill your lower lungs, but continue inhaling into your upper chest. As you do so, your right hand will rise and your left hand will fall a little as your abdomen falls. This time, make a deep sound as you exhale letting the tension leave your body preparing you for your Yoga practice.
Yoga Postures Proven to help with Menstrual Pain:

Sit/Easy Position - Sukhasana
Sit cross-legged with hands on knees. Focus on your breath. Keep your spine straight and push the sit bones down into the floor. Allow the knees to gently lower. If the knees rise above your hips, sit on a cushion or block. This will help support your back and hips. Take five to10 slow, deep breaths. On the next inhale, raise your arms over your head. Exhale and bring your arms down slowly. Repeat five to seven times.

Extended Cat – bidalasana, chakravakasana
Start on your hands and knees. With your hands just in front of your shoulders, your legs about hip width apart. As you inhale, tilt the tailbone and pelvis up, and let the spine curve downward dropping the stomach low and lifting your head up. This move should be done gently. As you exhale, move into cat by reversing the spinal bend, tilting the hips down, drawing the spine up and pulling the chest and stomach in. Repeat several times, flowing smoothly from dog into cat, and cat back into dog. Repeat five to seven times

Cobra
Lie down on your stomach. Keep your legs together, arms at your side, close to your body with your hands by your chest. Inhale slowly raise your head and chest as high as it will go. Keep your buttocks muscles tight to protect your lower back. Keep your head up and chest and heart out. Breathe several times and then come down. Repeat as necessary. When you've gone as high as you can, gently raise yourself up on your arms, stretching the spine even more. You should only go as far as you are comfortable. Your pelvis should always remain on the floor. Breathe several times and come down.
Repeat five to seven times

Corpse Pose - Savasana
Think of this pose as a “reflective reward” for the good you just did your body, mind and soul. This pose serves to relax the brain, body, and breath. Lie on your back, extending you legs out a little wider than hip distance apart, arms relaxed and out to the sides. Focus on your breathing with full inhalations and exhalations. Work to promote natural alignment as you relax into each breath. After a few moments (about three to four minutes) progress out of this pose. Slowly roll over to your right side, knees bent, mindfully pushing your body up into a seated position.

Cellphones could damage human tissues in totally new way

A theoretical biologist at the government's Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico says that cellphone radiation could be interacting with human tissue in a completely new way.a paper titled What does photon energy tell us about cellphone safety?, Bill Bruno describes a new mechanism by which this type iof microwave radiation could cause damage.
It's previously been argued that the radiation emitted by cell phones can't damage biological tissue because microwave photons don't have enough energy to break chemical bonds.
But Bruno argues that this only applies when the number of photons is less than one in a volume of space equivalent to a cubic wavelength.
When the density of photons is higher than this, he says, interference can bring other effects into play. It's similar, he says, to optical tweezers, in which coherent photons combine to move small objects such as cells.
While optical tweezers generally work at infrared frequencies, Bruno believes a similar effect could work for microwave photons. It would depend on whether there is a high enough density of microwave photons from cellphones to generate a big enough force; and whether there are structures in the body with the required dielectric properties to be susceptible.
And, says Bruno, the density of microwave photons from cell phones and cell phone is easily high enough; and there are plenty of vulnerable structures, including neurons up to a meter long.

The Cheapest Laptop In The World!

The Indian Government stunned everyone when it announced its 35 dollar tablet computer for students in July 2010 but now there are many question marks on that project.
According to one official from India, the solutions for tomorrow will emerge form India as he revealed the breathtaking price tag, a fraction of the 500 dollar cost for an Apple iPad. The touch-screen device aimed at he country’s millions of students, could even be hammered down to just 10 dollars once production rates increase.
This tablet computer who’s name is still undecided has following features or specs; boasting three power back-up, internet browser, media player, video-conferencing capability, good date storage, hard disk drive and web cam. Officials said that this low-cost device is likely to revolutionize the education system in our country. It will have a very positive impact on our literacy campaign. India has literacy rate of 61 percent far behind many other developing nations such as china with 92 percent and Indian government is making major efforts to improve its educations system.
But critics say that this is unfeasible project because a commuter with all normal functionality at this price will not be sustainable unless it is subsidized by the government or the industry. The motherboard of a prototype cost 47 dollars alone. The first 100000 computers are planed to be released as soon as January, but details of its exact specifications are still scare and as it the level of government subsidies that will be essential to keep the price down.
Despite the many problems HCL info system is optimistic about it as one official said, “the one laptop per child association in the US was difficult to comprehend wand there was skepticism then but it led to the low-cost Notebook laptops. This is journey which will evolve”.

How to Train Your Hamster

  1. When you bring your hamster home, leave it alone for a couple of days so he/she can get comfortable with its new habitat. This will teach it that you won't push the hamster into something it doesn't want to do. Also, make sure that your hamster's food dish is filled when you put it in the cage. Don't leave the hamster in his ball (if you have one) too long, or he/she might go to the bathroom in the ball and it will go through the cracks!
  2. Get them use to the sound of your voice by reading a book or singing a song to them. This will let them feel comfortable and secure when they hear your voice.
  3. Put a sunflower seed or a hamster treat in your hand and then lay it flat in the cage. Wait patiently for your hamster to climb on your hand and then take the treat, do this for about an hour. Your hamster, however, might grab your finger instead and bite it. Now this time, when the hamster climbs on your palm, slowly lift him out of the cage and stroke his/her fur. This teaches him that you love him/her and he/she can trust you. Eventually he will climb on your hand and will be waiting for you to pick him/her up.
  4. Teach your hamster some tricks. This will not only give you a bond, but it will make your hamster respond to you better. Start simply with "stand". Hold a treat over his head and wait for him to stand on two legs. Say "stand" over and over. He will get on two feet and take the treat. After a while when you say "stand," he/she will do it on it's own. Don't forget to reward him or her!
  5. You can do the same thing with other tricks like "paw," only put the treat in front so he will put a paw forward to get it
  6. For "turn" or "roll over," put the treat on his back side so he will turn around to get it. Then do the same thing as "stand". Say it and repeat it. Don't use treats until after the trick has been performed and now you have a trained hamster!
  7. Train him about what not to do. If he/she chews on something he/she not supposed to, say assertively "No". Every time he stops when you ask, give him a treat or love. Whenever your hamster does what you ask, give him/her a reward! Try not to make the reward a treat all the time because too many treats is a bad thing!
  8. If you want to be a good owner then get a box a little bigger than the size of a sticky note then fill it with sand have your bedding be level with the box so he will be able to climb onto it then they will be able to dig and will love you for it.
  9. Try Jump Put a treat up above the hamster and go up with the treat when she is standing say jump again and again
  10. Try giving the hamster a carrot as a treat. Most hamsters like carrots. (Some hamsters even like Honey Nut Cheerios! But regular Cheerios are fine, too. If you prefer, anyway.) Do not give carrots to your hamster often, but only once in a while. Your hamster will appreciate a new treat.
